In 1996 after 10 years of presenting the artwork of local Chicago artists in my storefront live-in gallery space, I began to have artistic ideas of my own. I had a vision of an African fabric painted on a wine bottle and effectively worked out a self-taught process to create it. I'm sure the creative, improvisational music environment I was experiencing at the Velvet Lounge, a jazz club I was involved in from the late eighties on, also had at least some influence on me becoming an artist.
2026 marks my 30th anniversary as a self-taught artist still painting bottles and much more. Still following the creative music scene.
